On one occasion, Phil helped me with a hydraulic brake issue. As I struggled through it he remembered that a couple of years before there were issues with that model. He arranged a warranty swap on parts I didn't even buy from them. Again, this is time and effort with no profit.
The stories could go on and on. I have purchased several bikes from them and have received excellent service and savings. I have spent hours just sitting and talking to Steve and crew. They are the real deal! Rare in the world of LBS.
I tend to change my mind a lot when I am shopping for parts. This is not only confusing but time consuming for Steve and his staff. On one occasion I went back and forth on a cassette for a mountain bike. When it arrived it was a better model than I had finally settled on. Even though my back and forth led to the miscommunication and the mistake was my fault, Phil gave me a great deal on it.
I recently relocated to the Quad Cities and was in search of a local cycling store for the purchase of a new road bike. After shopping 3 other stores, Bike N Hike was my last stop. I stopped in on a busy Saturday and Steve went out of his way to listen to my needs/wants of a new bike. He educated me on new technologies of Liv bikes and what was appropriate for my style of riding. I wasn't pushed to buy the most expensive bike, rather the one best fit for me. Customer service of all staff was above and beyond. Very fair pricing and thrilled with my new bike.

My favorite bike shop in the QC. Yes, I have had the random issue pop up here or there like other people have mentioned, but every time I have they made it right. Great brand (Giant), great prices, selection, and knowledgeable staff. They can be a busy shop, but you will find that at any retail store. Try to plan ahead so you avoid peak hours or the week of major cycling events. Don't be fooled by what might appear to be a limited stock either. They have a lot of bikes, and if they have to order one it does not take long.
Steve was extremely helpful helping me find a new bike. He took the time to try and find me the the best deal that he could offer and was completely honest about what bike I needed to fit my needs. This LBS isn't out to try and siphon every red cent out of you and just wants their customers to enjoy biking. Atmosphere is very relaxed and no one at the shop was aggressive or pushy when it came to sales. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new or even used bike in the QC.
As a Soldier in the U.S. Army, I have to find a new LBS every 2-3 years. As a result, I have visited bike shops from Georgia to Alaska and Bike and Hike is easily the best. I don't think of them as a place to purchase bikes and parts, I consider them friends. Even after moving to another post, I call them for advice and to order parts.
I bought my new Giant Road Bike nearly 3 months ago. I had not had any experience with Bike and Hike prior to this purchase. I live approx. an hour from their shop so I made an appointment. When I arrived they had the bike ready to ride and the purchase experience was very positive. They were very knowledgeable and helped me accessorize my bike the way I wanted it. Since that time I have had the bike tuned and the service was awesome. Two thumbs up for Bike and Hike!
The other day I ordered a fat bike tire, an hour later Phil called me back and was concerned that it wouldn't fit my bike. This is great service, not just business. I fully recognize that I am a pain in the butt customer and I am sure they sigh when the see my number, however, even when I wait until the last minute to order a part before an event, they quickly order it and ship it to me.
